«AzRPI» JV has a license for mining and processing of the unique bentonite clay at Dash-Salakhli deposit with estimated reserves over than 86 million tons.
Dash-Salakhli bentonite deposit is located in Azerbaijan Republic, Dash-Salakhli village of Gazakh city.
It is one of the high-quality natural sodium bentonite deposits in the world and is represented by one flat-lying seam with no poor rocks inside. It relates to sedimentary type formed as a result of continental-lacustrine conditions. The deposit is represented by montmorillonite and hydromica- montmorillonite clay. Thickness of bentonite deposit varies from 15 to 150 m.
Deposit area makes 3km2 within the mining allotment. Exploitation of the deposit started in 1971.
Chemical composition of bentonite clays mined from this deposit has the following characteristics:
Bentonite clays mined from Dash-Salakhli deposit contain more than 85% of montmorillonite where Na and Mg cations prevail in CEC. Exchange cations content makes 92-98 meq/100g.
Mineral composition and CEC of clays is characterized by the continuity over the deposit area which minimizes sharp fluctuations of bentonite quality indicators. Geological mapping and modeling carried out on the deposit allows selective mining of raw materials with specified quality indicators.
